More than 815,000 tonnes of armourstone and aggregates supplied to Tier-1 marine works in Portugal, France, the United States and Spain — alongside the leading European contractors in the sector.
Since 2019 we have been supplying high-density armourstone and aggregates to offshore wind and submarine high-voltage interconnection projects, in collaboration with the four leading European marine contractors: DEME, Van Oord, Jan de Nul and Tideway Offshore Solutions.
The density of amphibolite (>3.10 T/m³) is especially valued for scour protection of offshore foundations and for ballast and protection of submarine cables, where the rock must remain stable on the seabed under Atlantic current and wave loading.
World's first commercial-scale semi-submersible floating wind farm and Europe's first floating wind farm in continental waters. Three Vestas V164 turbines (8.4 MW each, 25 MW total) on WindFloat semi-submersible floaters by Principle Power. HSS supplied armourstone for protection of the mooring system and cables.
France's first commercial offshore wind farm. 80 GE Haliade 150-6MW turbines for a total capacity of 480 MW. We supplied amphibolite armourstone in two consecutive phases (2020 with Van Oord and 2021 with DEME) for scour protection and base armour around the monopile foundations.
First commercial-scale offshore wind farm in the United States. 62 GE Haliade-X turbines of 13 MW each, totalling 806 MW of nameplate capacity. First power was delivered to the New England grid in January 2024. HSS supplied LMA 5/40 amphibolite for scour protection of the foundations.
First submarine electricity interconnection between Spain and France. Two HVDC links of 1,000 MW each (2 GW total) at 400 kV DC, with a total route of ~400 km (300 km submarine). EU Project of Common Interest, sponsored by Inelfe (Red Eléctrica + RTE), with EIB financing of €1.6 bn. HSS processes the existing granite preload in situ at the Outer Port of Ferrol into CE-certified armourstone and aggregates.
Ongoing supply of light amphibolite armourstone under non-disclosure agreement with the client. Material extracted and produced at the Lamas-Rapadoiro Quarry, San Sadurniño (A Coruña, Spain), under CE marking.
